International Women’s Day 2018: 12 facts to celebrate special day As we #pressforprogress

TODAY is International Women’s Day 2018. It’s a time to promote women’s rights, celebrate female achievements and inspire gender equality movements.

The theme this year is #PressforProgress and is based on a push for gender parity worldwide. And with increased celebrity support for the women’s movement thanks to the #metoo and #timesup campaigns, this year’s event has never been bigger. Here are 12 fascinating facts about women...
1 - The two highest IQ scores in recorded history belong to women.
2 - Women speak about 20,000 words a day. That’s 13,000 more than the average man.
3 - Men lie on average six times a day – twice as often as women.
4 - Last year’s Wonder Woman was the first superhero film starring a female lead. It’s also the highest grossing fi lm to have been directed by a woman.
5 - Women are safer drivers than men. They are involved in fewer road accidents and have fewer penalty points on their licence. Some 57% of male drivers have been involved in at least one accident compared to 44% of women, according to
6 - Last year Taylor Swift, the youngest star on the Forbes Female Entertainment Rich List, empowered women all around the world by winning a landmark lawsuit, suing a radio host who groped her bum for just $1. Taylor said she sought to make a public point that women should not have to endure unwanted physical contact.
7 - On average, women live two to five years longer than men, a fact which holds true in every country in the world. This isn’t limited to human beings. Female orangutans and chimpanzees also outlive their male counterparts.
8 - Because of the high production of the hormone estrogen during puberty, girls’ brains generally mature two years earlier than those of boys.
9 - Women love sex just as much as men. In a recent survey, three quarters of the females polled said they wanted to romp at least three times a week.
10 - In Russia there are nine million more women than men.
11 - Women tolerate pain better than men. An episode of the show MythBusters showed that women can hold their hands in freezing water 19% longer than those crybaby men.
12 - Women make better leaders than men. Research has concluded that female-led companies are more successful than ones led by males. A poll found that the public agrees – women make fairer, more compassionate and more trustworthy leaders than men do. A Canadian study also concluded that women make better doctors. It said female medics are much more likely than men to adhere to guidelines and to prescribe the right drugs.
