Lagos State Task force arrests abandoned baby’s mum

Lagos State Envitonmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) operatives yesterday arrested a mother after rescuing a four-month old baby, she allegedly dumped at Oshodi Under Bridge.
The baby boy was wrapped inside a bag. The task force chairman, Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Superintendent of Police, led his men to rescue the child.
In a statement, the agency said the mother, Timilehin Adeshina, 18, was arrested while running away after dumping the baby.
Upon interrogation, the woman, it said, confessed that she dumped the baby because she could no longer take care of him. Her family members, she claimed, were not ready to accommodate her and the baby.
She claimed, she was driven out with the baby by her mother to go and locate the father.
”My mother sent me out because I gave birth and could not identify the man who impregnated me as different men slept with me,” she was quoted.
According to her, she dropped from Lovely School, Ejigbo, Lagos, in JSS II, because of poverty.
She alleged that her mother, who hails from Delta State, lives at 26, Coker Street, Ejigbo, Lagos. She said her father died nine years ago.
She said she slept with men for money after she was driven out with her baby.
Egbeyemi said police chief Fatai Owoseni has directed that the mother and child be transferred to The Social Welfare Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Social Development.
