Benue APC Crises Deepens: 5 Guber Aspirants Reject Imposition Of Ortom

The battle for who becomes the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has sparked fresh crisis, with the five governorship aspirants of the party rejecting Chief Samuel Ortom as the consensus candidate, saying the primaries have not been conducted to elect a candidate.

This was coming few hours after the leader of the party in the state, Sen George Akume reportedly forwarded Ortom who has just decamped from the PDP as the consensus candidate for the party. The former minister of state for industry, trade and investment, Chief Ortom had lost the PDP primaries ticket and quickly picked the APC nomination form.

However, this outcome did not go well with the five aspirants contesting for the position, including Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Jime, Mike Iordye, Akange Audu, Sen Joseph Waku and Prof Steve Ugbah who issued a press statement against it yesterday in Makurdi.

The question remains, why is the APC party  hierarchy afraid of a democratic procedure to produce a gubernatorial candidate like other states?
