Private Jet Saga: Petroleum Minister Diezani Allison Madueke Files Fresh Suit Against National Assembly

Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has filed a fresh suit before the Abuja division of the Federal High Court against the constitutional powers of the National Assembly to probe her over the private jet scandal.
In the suit filed by her lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), the minister and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) are contending that the lawmakers lack the powers to summon or investigate her.
The suit was followed by two separate letters addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Senate President respectively, urging them not to take further steps on the probe as it would amount to contempt of court.
The plaintiffs have approached the court to determine, among others, whether by virtue of the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as altered, particularly Sections 88, 89 and 214 thereof, the respondents or any of their committees are legally and constitutionally empowered to probe or conduct investigation into allegations of fraud or other criminal activities said to have occurred in the agencies under the applicants’ supervision or control.
They further prayed the court to grant a perpetual injunction restraining the National Assembly and its agents from further conducting direct personal or physical probe, inquiry or investigation into any alleged fraud
