Nine Herdsmen Rape & Rob Women in Guma- Benue State

About nine Fulani herdsmen have raped and robbed two women and the daughter of a farmer (names withheld) of money and other valuables at gun point at Tse Ikyuer, Yandev, Mbagwen in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The women are aged between 18 and 20 years. While one of the suspects has been arrested, the remaining eight are still at large.

It was gathered that after the herdsmen beat up and raped the women, they also made away with about N60, 000 as well as two handsets belonging to them.
It was learnt that one of the women who was beaten and gang-raped by three of the herdsmen has been unable to walk or talk.

The woman and the remaining two who could barely walk have been taken to an undisclosed hospital in Makurdi for treatment.

The two women who narrated their ordeals  said that the leader of the gang who is at large had come to their homes earlier in the day and asked to be given water to drink.

While he was being served, the herdsman who noticed the absence of the head of the household asked for his whereabouts and the unsuspecting women told him that their benefactor has travelled out of town.

The herdsman had departed and came back later in the day with eight others, brandishing guns and asked them to lie down or risk being shot.

They explained that four of the herdsmen who were armed fired gunshots in the air compelling the terrified women to surrender to them.

It was learnt that despite the submission, the herdsmen beat up the women and also collected money and handsets from them.

They noted that the leader of the gang who has been living around them for some had fled the area in company of his family and cattle shortly after the incident.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Daniel Ezeala who confirmed the report noted that investigations were on-going while the women were receiving treatments.
